Getting Here

Arriving from the South

BEWARE WHEN USING GPS*. Depart the M6 motorway at junction 36 and join the A590 towards Windermere (which soon becomes the A591). From here it is about a 30 miles drive through the South Lakes. Stay on the A591 and pass Kendal before driving through Windemere, Ambleside and Grasmere. Stay on the A591, pass the Swan hotel, we are situated approximately 2 miles past Grasmere and a mile and a half past the Traveller’s Rest pub on the summit of Dunmail Raise. Park in the lay-by on the right hand side of the road (look out for the AA box). *Do not turn off down to Town Head Farm.

Arriving from the North

Depart the M6 motorway at junction 40 and drive West on the A66 until reaching Threlkeld. Turn off onto Station Road / B5322 (there will be a brown tourist sign for the mining museum). Join the A591 and pass the King’s Head Hotel, continue for 4 and a half miles enjoying the view of Thilmere Reservoir, we can be found on the left shortly after the dual carriageway. Lookout for the AA box and park in the lay-by on the left hand side of the road.

Public Transport right to our door (rail and bus)

The 555 bus stops right outside the cottage, travelling from Lancaster to Keswick via Carnforth, Milnthorpe, Kendal, Windermere, Ambleside and Grasmere. Windermere is well served with its rail station and the 555 can be caught from outside the station.

National Express also run services to Windermere and Grasmere.
